5. McDonald’s Once Owned Most of Chipotle
In 1998, McDonald’s invested in the fast-Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle, which had around 16 restaurant locations at the time. As many celebrities know, good investments go a long way. By 2006, McDonald’s owned around 90% of Chipotle, which had grown to over 500 locations. It eventually sold most of its stock so that it could focus on McDonald’s restaurants more.
